Dr. De La Torre is the founder of The Critter Care Center. Her journey began in Whitter California where she grew up and began working in the local pet store. Her love for taking care of all animals lead her to working at a local veterinary hospital. She did this while achieving her undergraduate degree from Cal State Fullerton in Biological Science/emphasis on ecology, ornithology and mammalogy. Around this time she also met her husband who was also interested in exotic animals, biological science (emphasis in herpatology) and was a veterinary assistant.
Dr. De La Torre and her husband both began working for Emergency Pet Hospitals in Orange County and Pasadena. Dr. De La Torre discovered her passion for helping animals and people. She then pursued a veterinary school degree at Western University of Health Sciences. While on her journey she renewed her interest in exotic animals, wildlife and livestock. She studied and volunteered under many exotic animal and large animal veterinarians to gain more experience to provide care for these unique species.
Dr. De La Torre also performed community service at various wild life centers and contributed to enhancing numbers of wild bird populations. She did this through working on research, intervention projects and providing medical treatment at wildlife centers. As a result of wildlife medical interests, she then became interested in population medicine and public health communicable animal diseases. She pursued a Master’s in Public Health at the University of Minnesota during and after veterinary school. Since then, Dr. De La Torre has volunteered time at non-profit wildlife centers and was Director of Veterinary Sciences at Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center in Huntington Beach.
Since Veterinary School, Dr. De La Torre has also been employed full time at an exotic animal practice and various emergency hospitals. After working for a number of practices she began wanting to provide care and aid for her own staff, unique patients, client and local community. Her goal evolved into providing a loving, family environment to people of all walks of life and most companion animal species. Dr. DeLaTorre lives very close to The Critter Care Center clinic with her husband and two young children. She is busy on her spare time providing community service for rescue groups and her children schools. She also enjoys camping, hiking, reading, bike riding among many other outdoor activities.
